Eating a high-protein diet helps build muscle, especially when combined with strength training. And since muscle supports metabolism and energy production (especially), building muscle is a great way to keep your metabolism healthy.


This is especially true for people who eat less as a result of their doctor's recommended weight loss plans. Extreme calorie restriction can lead to muscle loss in addition to fat loss. This loss of lean muscle mass can slow down metabolism and may make it easier to gain weight again if you stop eating a restricted diet.


Proper protein intake and weight training while eating a calorie deficiency help prevent this muscle destruction and the consequent loss of metabolism.

The thermal effects of protein can also provide a slight metabolic boost. Your body needs more energy to digest protein than fats and carbohydrates, which means more calories are burned in the process.


Proteins can temporarily increase metabolism due to the energy required for digestion and metabolism. When combined with weight training, you can also build muscle by adding protein, especially if you eat less for a doctor-approved diet.
